Dear Reader,
Pariah Publishing is the corporate entity I own that publishes my books, the first of which - The Incredible Origins of the Onyx Sun - debuts August 2, 2008.
The company previously served as the sponsoring organization of the One Chapter Writing Contest - a merit-based writing contest designed to identify and publicize exceptional emerging writers of fiction. I started the company and contest because I believe there are many talented writers that do not get the focus they deserve. I was fortunate, during the year Pariah ran the contest, to be validated in this belief by hundreds of monthly submissions, some from truly gifted writers. So even though the contest has closed (due to time constraints from working on my novel), I thought we would be amiss to not include the winning entries here.
Pariah Publishing is named such because I still believe there are many unacknowledged, exceptional writers. In many ways, they are pariahs, or "social outcasts", to an industry that is hard to break into. Even though this made sense in the past because the costs of physcial distribution created a disadvantageous risk-reward ratio for agents and publishers, digital media and online social networks are liberating many of these expenses.
Pariah Publishing will play a role in this evolution. My book is the test case. If it is successful, expect to see more from a company that has always beleived in the publishing power of pariahs.
Sincerely,
Christopher Mahoney
